Minority report

I despise how Illinois Senator Barack Obama is leveraging on his race and skin color to get himself elected to the White House.

Behind the elaborate social, economic and political campaign, it's really just a "Let's make history, please vote for me because I'm black" strategy.

Sympathy propaganda at its finest.

You have no idea what's going on. The reason he's so successful is because he hasn't been running on race. Maybe you should watch more CNN. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/11/05/colin.powell.reaction.cnn

I'm not doubting his success. He won both the majority and electoral votes fair and square. He deserves to be elected.

He may not be running on race, but everyone else, including his political machinery, is contributing to the hype that he will make history as the first black president and how it will transcend society.

If that ain't trying to get sympathy, I don't know what is.

At the end of the day, if he were white, there won't even be anything to talk about.

They're not "running" on race. People are making a big deal about it because it "is" a big deal. This "hype" you're talking about is very real for the african american community and to america as a nation. What political machinery are you talking about? If you'll notice, all the people who talk about him being the first african american president are the bystanders, the people on the sidelines. They're not coming from his campaign people.
I don't know why you see it as trying to get sympathy. It's not that at all. It's a reality.
If he were white, there won't be anything to talk about. You're right. But you're stating the obvious.

"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer."

"Its been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America."

It sounds every bit like he's fueling the hype.

Enough said. May God Bless America.

No matter what, you cannot separate him from his background and his upbringing, but what we was talking about in that quote was the grassroots campaign that his campaign ran. The fact that he raised record amounts of money from single donors donating as little as $10 or $20 dollars at a time shows the power of true democracy that ordinary people can take part of something about make it this huge movement. That's what he's talking about.
