Balls not found

Seems like I lost my balls for a minute. I haven't capped any games for the past two nights. i could've made good bucks on a couple of seemingly sure picks but I begged off at the last minute.

A lesson in faith

Faith has told me not to question when seemingly insurmountable problems or unfavorable circumstances arise.

"Why me?"

Because when something good or great happens, I doubt you ever question Him.

"Why me?"

Keep the faith

I had no electricity for about 27 hours. The building still has no elevator service since Saturday morning. The condo's basement parking has been submerged in 12-feet deep of murky floodwater since Saturday noon, taking eight vehicles along for the ride.

I know a lot of people have it much worse so I am in no means complaining nor comparing. Despite it all, I feel very blessed.

May God bless us all, especially in these times of crisis.

Worse than Katrina

Hurricane Katrina dumped over an inch of rainfall in Louisiana for three hours and another half-an-inch per hour over the next five hours on August 29, 2005.

Typhoon Ondoy dumped an average of 2.24 inches of rainfall in Luzon per hour for six hours and then some yesterday.

It's nature's wrath at its worst.

Singapore GP

I was supposed to fly to SG and catch the SingTel Grand Prix live this weekend. Good thing I decided to skip it beforehand because it's gonna be a bitch trying to walk around with a severely banged up knee.

Besides, I was never a huge F1 fan anyway.

Tumblin' down the toilet

I don't understand the fuss about Tumblr. They're filled with reposted or reblogged shit ish from other people's Tumblr accounts.

It's plagiarism given life in cyberspace.

Politics by Puno

I love how people are so afraid of DILG Sec. Ronnie Puno's nationwide political machinery. He can make or break any politician's career.

Now, that's what I call power and influence.

Bam bam you're dead

Club and bar promoter Mark "Bam" Reyes was gunned down in front of his Makati condo not too long ago. According to reports, he was riddled with five shots to the body.

I don't know him but many people weren't suprised because the guy had made a ton of enemies.

Well, you reap what you sow.

Blitz'd

Damn. This Ray Lewis game-saving hit on Darren Sproles is just plain nasty. No wonder he's one of the most feared players in the NFL.

POP! Goes my other knee

What can I say?

It was deja vu all over again.

I blew out my left knee playing hoops last night at the Moro Lorenzo Gym.

I was in pursuit trying to stop a fastbreak layup when I landed awkwardly on my left leg, twisting my knee. I did get the spectacular mid-air block but I lost my knee in return. I swear I heard it pop just like I did three years ago when I busted my right knee, rupturing my ACL.

Then I started second-guessing myself. What if I just let him go? Maybe I should've let him get away with the game-winning layup and concede the game. But that's not me. Ten times out of ten, I will make the same play over and over again.

In a few days, I will find out how badly damaged my knee is. Right now, hope is bleak and it's looking like another torn ACL for me. That would mean another 6-9 months off the court.

I've no regrets though. I'd still make that play a million times over, in true Gonzy fashion.

The place to PLAY

Resorts World Manila provides the best gambling experience in the country. Everything is pretty much eye candy, especially the female staff in their all-black ensemble.

The hotel casino is not fully operational yet but expect an even better experience once they go all out in December.

Hootin', dealin', hoopin'

Finally had Hooters wings after a long dry spell then passed by Sofitel for a quick round of undisturbed Super 6 games. The night was capped by a good game of basketball at Celeb.

Awesome all-around day and night so far.

Sporting milestones on 9/11

In a couple of hours, two sporting-related events will have everybody tuning in.

The GOAT, his Airness, Michael Jordan, will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield while Jordan Brand endorser Derek Jeter, in the midst of a 9/11 memorial in New York, will try to overtake Lou Gehrig as the Yankees' all-time hits leader.

I will be a witness to both milestones. May God bless me with the ability to flip channels with the quickness because it's going to be an awesome day in sports and an even greater time to be a sports fan.

MJ goes to the Hall

The Greatest of All-Time spoke the truth, and he did it with class and humility.

"Don't be in a rush to try to find the next Michael Jordan. There's not gonna be another Michael Jordan.

- Michael Jordan, during the Hall of Fame Class of 2009 Press Conference

Alter Ego

Another awesome Nike TV spot starring Adrian "All Day" Peterson from the Minnesota Vikings.

11 September 2001

*A moment of silence.*

I wrote this exactly a year ago. Allow me to repost.

-----------------------------

Remembering 9/11/2001

I was with a couple of friends holding court at the Super Six table at the Casino Filipino Airport when we found out about 9/11.

My mom was on a CX flight on her way back home from New York (JFK-YVR-HKG-MNL) when the towers were struck. They were ordered to land at the nearest US airport which happened to be in Anchorage. They were stranded in Alaska for several days as the entire American airspace was declared a no-fly zone.

My brother was sleeping in his Manhattan flat just a few blocks away from ground zero.

Where were you?

-----------------------------

Can't believe it has been eight years since. A huge shoutout to all the brave men and women who gave their lives in service of not only America but the rest of the world. Your efforts will always be appreciated and remembered.

May the souls of all those who perished in this tragedy rest in peace.

DLSU misses the Final Four bus

La Salle misses the UAAP Final Four for the first time in like more than a decade. It's bittersweet because as I was born and raised in an Atenean family, I was taught to hate La Salle. However, I would have liked the Green Archers to have reached the semifinals so they can be slaughtered yet again by the Blue Eagles.

Anyway, to the DLSU folks and fans alike out there, we'll miss you all.

Intimate love

Love is a many-spendored thong.

Noynoy is not Ninoy

So Senator Noynoy Aquino announced his candidacy for president of the Republic of Philippines today. Well, he's nothing like his father and the only thing they share in common is the Benigno Aquino name.

Besides, if the old woman didn't die recently, we wouldn't even have this discussion. He's obviously taking advantage of the sudden resurgence of the Aquino name.

9/9/09

I honestly don't know why a ton of people give a lot of shit about this date (today) and the others like it (8/8/08, 7/7/07, 10/10/10, etc). Aside from the fact that they don't happen often, I don't know how else they are significant.

Ateneo shows UP who's boss

Ateneo would have been flawless this UAAP season if not for an upset loss to perennial cellar dueler UP in the first round. The Blue Eagles waited long for retribution and they finally exacted revenge on their Katipunan neighbors with a 93-75 blowout win yesterday at the San Juan Arena.

The game was never close with Ateneo (12-1) storming to a double-digit lead early in the first quarter. They were on cruise control the rest of the way with the lead balloning to 27 in the fourth period.

Thou shall not cheat on Chavit

By now everyone probably knows about the Chavit Singson saga that's been on the headlines the past week. Long story short, Chavit caught his partner cheating on him for like the nth time so he beat her and the guy to a pulp. If you want the whole story, I suggest you google it.

Everyone in the country knows that you do not mess with him so it baffles me to no end how his partner had the guts to try to pull a fast one over him . Definitely a stupid move on the girl's part and an even dumber move on the guy's. I heard the guy got the worst end of Chavit's wrath.

I'm not saying I agree with what the ex-governor did but since I don't have sympathy for cheaters, best believe they had it coming. It's even more puzzling how they could not have seen it from miles away.

Hout gets knocked out

I don't care what other people think but this guy deserved to be clocked. If you run your mouth and taunt while getting physical on an opponent after a game, you are just asking for it.

Oregon's Blount has been suspended for the rest of the season while that asshole Byron Hout from Boise State was spared of any sanction despite starting the post-game incident. SMFH.

Zesty warning

This is why you shouldn't fly ZestAir. Believe it or not, it happens to them more often than lightning striking something twice.

A breath of ZestAir

I doubt I'll ever fly ZestAir knowing there are way better and safer alternatives in PAL or Cebu Pacific. But if there's anything that the newest low cost carrier trumps its more popular rivals at, it has to be the sleek, figure-hugging unis of their cabin crew.
