The 2008 IBM MDC Sportsfest officially ended this afternoon with the basketball championship game between Center Support HR and the F&A Matadors at the Xavier School Gym. I had seven MCBL teammates playing (5 for CS and 2 for F&A) in this game so I had to come out and show some support.
It was a close game up until the fourth quarter when the Matadors pulled away with a series of fastbreak plays anchored on strong defense. That, coupled with CS-HR's inability to create and make plays, enabled the Matadors to erect a huge 15-point lead midway through the final canto. They held on for a 75-66 win to claim the championship.
My MCBL teammate Alfie Sanchez had a stellar performance leading the Matadors with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. I hope he continues to flash this superb form for the rest of the MCBL season. Another fellow MCBL teammate, Herbert Vergara, had 36 points and 16 rebounds for CS-HR.
