Up by 9 points with 2 minutes and change left, Memphis looked assured to win their first national championship. But a late game meltdown anchored on missed freethrows, paved the way for Kansas's Mario Chalmers to nail a three-pointer to knot the game at 63-all with 2 seconds remaining.
It was all Kansas in the ensuing overtime period, winning the championship via a 75-68 comeback victory.

North Carolina doubles against Louisville
The women's basketball team scored a come-from-behind 78-74 win over Louisville in their Sweet Sixteen matchup. The move on to the Regional Finals (Elite Eight) and will face LSU.
The men's basketball team booked a Final Four ticket via an 83-73 victory over the Cardinals. They will meet eithet Kansas or Davidson in San Antonio next week.

Psycho T carries UNC to the Final Four
I had to fight off puyat from sleeping at 5am and waking up at 830am this morning to go to my lola's place to catch the Elite Eight games live over Solar Sports' BTV. I have SkyCable at home which doesn't carry the BTV and Solar Sports channels.
It was all worth it as I watched All-American Tyler Hansbrough show everyone why he is (and should be) US college basketball's player of the year. He singlehandedly willed North Carolina to a 83-73 Elite Eight victory over the Louisville Cardinals. The Tar Heels book their ticket to the Final Four in San Antonio next Sunday as the East Regional Champions.
The Tar Heel junior, who bears the nicknam Psycho T, scored 20 points in the second half, making clutch shot after clutch shot. In convecutive possesions late in the game, Hansbrough hit two 18-foot jumpers with the shotclock winding down and 6'11 Louisville center David Padgett's outstretched arms in his face.
He finished with game-highs of 28 points and 13 rebounds, and was named the East Region's MVP.

UNC troops to the Elite 8
For the second straight year, North Carolina moves on to the Elite 8.
The Tar Heels, known for it's high-powered offense, displayed an excellent performance on defense, limiting the Cougars to 32% shooting en route to a 68-47 blowout victory. It's the third time in as many NCAA Tournament games that Carolina won by at least 20 points.
They will meet the Louisville Cardinals in the East Regional Finals this Sunday, also at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena where the Tar Heels are 7-0 all time.

Sweet Sixteen Carolina
For the second consecutive game, North Carolina unleashed its high-powered arsenal, topping the 100-point mark with plenty of time to spare. They scored 113 points in their first round win over Mount St. Mary's.
The top-seeded Tar Heels routed Arkansas, 108-77, to move on to the Sweet Sixteen. They will meet (4)Washington State at the East Regional semifinals this Friday at Charlotte.
Wayne Ellington topscored for the Heels (34-2) with 20 points on 67% shooting. Tywon Lawson added 19 points and 7 assists while All-American junior Tyler Hansbrough contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds.

West Virginia ousts Duke
A scrappy (7)West Virginia team outhustled a favored (2)Duke Blue Devil squad and knocked them out of the NCAA tournament, 73-67.
It's always a pleasure seeing Duke bow out of the tournament. As long as the Tar Heels go beyond the Blue Devils, I'll be popping a champagne.

Top-seeded Carolina rolls by Mount St. Mary's
Playing in front of an obviously pro-Tar Heel crowd at nearby Raleigh, North Carolina breezed past play-in winner (16)Mount St. Mary's, 113-74.
The RBC Center, home of the North Carolina State Wolfpack, their in-state rivals, will host the Tar Heels in the first two rounds of the East Regionals. The Raleigh site is a short drive away from their Chapel Hill campus. The regional semis and finals will also be in-state, at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena, should UNC advance.
All-American Tyler Hansbrough and Tywon Lawson each had 21 points for the Heels.
Their second round matchup will be against (9)Arkansas Razorbacks on Monday morning (Manila time). The Hogs upset Indiana in the first round.

March Madness 2008: North Carolina is #1
After capturing the league double (ACC regular season and postseason championship), North Carolina is heading into the NCAA Tournament as the overall number one seed.
Their reward?
They're staying in-state for the first four rounds of the Tournament (1st weekend at Raleigh; 2nd at Charlotte). They can book their ticket to the Final Four in San Antonio without leaving the friendly confines of North Carolina.
